EXERCISES:

I. Change the following active sentences into passive forms.
1.      They are building a new ring-road round the city.
   ANSWER: A new ring-road round the city is being built by them.
2.      They have changed the date of the meeting.
   ANSWER: The date of the meeting has been changed by them.
3.      Is Professor Rivers teaching that course this semester?
   ANSWER: Is that course this semester being taught by Professor Rivers?
4.      Waitresses and waiters serve customers.
   ANSWER: Customers are served by waitresses and waiters.
5.      Hundreds of people visit the Washington Monument every day.
   ANSWER: Washington Monument is visited by hundreds of people every day.
6.      They don’t pay Jim very much.
   ANSWER: Jim didn’t pay very much by them.
7.      These students are learning the passive.
   ANSWER: The passive is being learned by the students.
8.      Somebody has shot the president.
   ANSWER: The president has been shot by somebody.

II. Change this following passive sentences into active forms
    1.          That report is being prepared by Alex.
      ANSWER: Alex is preparing the report.
    2.          A new idea has been suggested by Shirley.
      ANSWER: Shirley has suggested a new idea.
    3.          Have you ever been bitten by a dog?
      ANSWER: Have you ever bitten by a dog?
    4.          Our homework is corrected by our teacher.
      ANSWER: Our teacher corrects our homework.
    5.          That proposal is being considered by the members right now.
      ANSWER: The members are considering that proposal right now.
    6.          Two buildings have been constructed by that company.
      ANSWER: That company has constructed two buildings.
    7.          The mail is opened by the secretary every morning.
      ANSWER: The secretary opens the mail every morning.
    8.          The truck is being loaded by the men now.
      ANSWER: The men are loading the truck now.
